Get Straighter Teeth in Less Time With Accelerated Orthodontics

Crooked teeth, overbite, and an unsightly smile. If all or some of that describes you, there is an orthodontic option that can get you a beautiful smile in a fraction of the time of traditional braces. This treatment is called accelerated orthodontics, and it may be just the treatment you've been looking for.

Christian A. Pham, DMD, of Crownridge Dental in San Antonio, Texas, specializes in accelerated orthodontics. And in most cases, he can get you the smile you've always wanted in less than a year.

What is accelerated orthodontics?

Accelerated orthodontics is a way for you to get straighter teeth in a matter of months, instead of years like traditional braces.

Accelerated orthodontics, unlike traditional treatments, does require a small in-office surgical procedure about a week after your braces are applied. This procedure is done under local anesthesia, and is used to change the gums and bones around your teeth. This allows your teeth to move into the correct position quicker than other treatments.

There are three different types of braces that can be used for accelerated orthodontics:

These braces are strong and stain resistant, but the bands that get changed monthly can get stained from coffee or cigarette smoke.

These braces are placed behind your teeth, so they may be ideal if you don't want anyone to know you have braces. The drawback to these braces is they are difficult to put in and are generally more expensive than ceramic or metal braces.

These braces are also very strong, but will be the most visible in your mouth. In addition, they are the least expensive form of braces.

At your initial appointment, Dr. Pham can discuss the pros and cons of each, and you can decide which option is best for you and your budget.

Advantages of accelerated orthodontics

You may be wondering what advantages this treatment has over traditional braces. The single biggest advantage to you is the fact that accelerated orthodontics can get you a straight, healthy smile in as little as 3-8 months. This is a huge advantage, considering traditional braces can take anywhere from 2-4 years to straighten teeth!

The treatment can also help improve your overall dental health by correcting any structural problems in your mouth. This can help you effectively chew food thoroughly, bite into food, and speak clearly.

Like any treatment, there are also some disadvantages you should be aware of. As mentioned before, accelerated orthodontics do require you to undergo a minor surgical procedure after the braces are applied. However, this procedure has about the discomfort level of a normal dental cleaning.

Insurance usually doesn’t cover accelerated orthodontics because it is considered cosmetic. But payment plans are available to help make getting the smile you've always wanted affordable.

Keeping your teeth healthy during treatment.

Getting braces for accelerated orthodontic treatment is only one step in the process for straighter teeth. There are some other things you should do to ensure the success of the braces. This includes:

One of the biggest things you need to keep in mind is to avoid eating chewy or sticky foods while your braces are in place. These types of foods can bend or break the brackets, which could slow down the process.
