Why Many Adults Choose Clear Braces

Adults across America are getting clear braces to fix their crooked teeth and improve their oral health. The days of having “metal mouth” are long gone, thanks to advancements in dental technology. So, if you’ve been thinking about getting braces, there’s no better time than the present. Christian Pham, DMD, offers clear braces to our adult patients at Crownbridge Dental in San Antonio, Texas. If you live in the area, come in for a consultation today!

What are clear braces?

Clear braces work in exactly the same way as traditional metal braces, but the brackets are made of a clear material like ceramic or plastic polycarbonate instead of metal. Sometimes the wires are clear as well. Just like with metal braces, Dr. Pham adjusts the wires slowly, over time, as your teeth move into better alignment.

Because they’re not made of metal, clear braces are much less noticeable, especially from a distance. This makes them the top choice for adults. With clear braces, you’ll have more confidence at the gym, in work meetings, giving presentations, interacting with other parents, or going to social events.

Why do adults get braces?

Adults get braces to fix crooked teeth. Maybe they lived for years, or even decades, with a crooked smile, and they’re ready for a change. Maybe their family couldn’t afford braces when they were growing up, but now they can. Or, maybe they had metal braces when they were younger, stopped wearing their retainer, and their teeth shifted back. Do any of these sound like you? If so, you’re definitely not alone.

By fixing your smile and aligning your teeth, you’re also fixing your bite and helping prevent other serious oral health problems like tooth decay. It will even be easier to floss in between your teeth and to brush them more effectively. People who suffer from headaches and joint pain may also notice an improvement once they’re teeth are aligned.

Considerations

All braces need to be cleaned thoroughly to prevent food from getting stuck around the brackets. Clear braces require extra dedication to clean because they can stain, and no one wants to walk around with a bunch of discolored braces.

Be sure to brush, floss, rinse with water, or use mouthwash after every snack and meal. Also, be careful when drinking red wine, tea, soda, and coffee, because they can stain teeth faster. Try using a straw to help prevent that from happening. Quitting smoking is a good idea too, because tobacco yellows teeth and could turn your clear braces yellow.

Make this the year you get braces and fix those pesky crooked teeth you’ve lived with for years. In 12-24 months you’ll have the smile you’ve always wanted and will improve your oral health as well. With clear braces there’s no stigma of having “metal mouth,” so you can feel confident in any situation.
