Cosmetic Veneers Q & A

What are cosmetic veneers?

Cosmetic veneers are thin tooth coverings designed to improve the appearance of your smile. They’re placed over the visible (front) part of your tooth and are custom made to fit the particular shape and contour of your smile. They’re made of either porcelain or composite resin and look just like a natural tooth while providing the strength and resilience of natural tooth enamel.

Why should I get cosmetic veneers?

Cosmetic veneers are an excellent solution for a number of dental concerns, such as:

  • Chipped or worn teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Large gaps between teeth
  • Stained or discolored teeth that do not respond to whitening treatments

Cosmetic veneers are a less intrusive alternative to crowns or braces for patients looking to improve the appearance of their smile.

Am I a good candidate for cosmetic veneers?

In order to qualify for cosmetic veneers, you must have healthy teeth and gums, first. Dr. Pham doesn’t recommend veneers for patients who habitually clench or grind their teeth, as excessive wear and tear might cause the veneers to chip or break. If you begin to grind your teeth after getting veneers, Dr. Pham recommends sleeping with a mouthguard at night.

What is the process for getting cosmetic veneers?

You’ll come in for two appointments with Dr. Pham to place your cosmetic veneers.

In the first visit, Dr. Pham gives you an optional local anesthetic to numb your teeth, and then he removes a thin layer of enamel from the teeth getting veneers. The amount of enamel that he removes is roughly equivalent to the thickness of the veneers, which are very thin. Next, he takes an impression of your teeth to be sent to a lab, where your veneers will be custom made to perfectly fit your mouth and smile. Then, he places temporary veneers on your teeth while you wait for your permanent ones.

In your second visit, Dr. Pham removes your temporary veneers and cleans your teeth. Then he affixes the permanent veneers, cures them with a special light to bond them to your teeth, and leaves you with an instantly improved smile!

If you’re looking to enhance your smile with cosmetic veneers, schedule an appointment with Dr. Pham. He’ll take you through a friendly consultation and a safe, gentle procedure. Call the office of Crownridge Dental today, or use the convenient online booking tool.
